Overview
Responsible for nutritional needs assessment, medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education for Maniilaq Health Center inpatients and outpatients referred by health care providers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients' nutritional needs and develop individualized care plans based on their medical history, dietary preferences, and health goals.
- Provides culturally sensitive training and advice to professional staff at MHC and village community clinics on nutritional assessments, medial nutrition therapy, nutrition education related to acute or chronic disease processes, and conditions.
- Ensures that nutrition assessments are completed for all inpatients as well as outpatients and family on nutrition issues with short and long term goals documenting in the EMR.
- Collaborate with the dietary department to ensure that meal plans align with patients' nutritional requirements.
- Monitor patients’ progress and adjust dietary plans as necessary to achieve desired health outcomes.
- Prepares and submits required data including a board report demonstrating continuous performance improvement strategies based on needs of our community and region.
- communicates with food service managers regarding food service issues and provides technical advice and in-services as needed.
- Conduct assessments for tube feeding requirements when necessary, ensuring proper administration and monitoring of nutritional intake.
- Stay current with advancements in dietetics, nutrition science, and related healthcare practices to provide evidence-based recommendations.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care strategies and outcomes.
- travels to the villages to provide diabetes education, medial nutrition therapy and nutrition education.
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or RELATED field.
- Must have Registered Dietitian license in good standing.
- State of Alaska Dietitian License required within 6mo of hire.
- Strong knowledge of physiology as it relates to nutrition and health management.
- Familiarity with weight loss programs and dietary interventions for various medical conditions.
- Experience with creating care plans that address specific aliment needs for diverse patient populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting in a rural Native Alaskan communities.
