The Telehealth Physician is responsible for remotely assisting in the delivery of patient care through process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. This position plays a critical role in providing medical oversight and expertise in collaboration with staff, provides patient care and activities that commensurate with their education and demonstrated competencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides telehealth support and guidance to seafarers in the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized treatment programs.
- Monitor and manage telehealth operations, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Implements clinical and technical aspects of care, intervenes with safety techniques and procedures, and supports the implementation of medical plans and diagnostic testing.
- Review and analyze patient data, health outcomes, and service utilization data to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and guide decision-making.
- Documents nursing encounters using charting in the telehealth platform and attends mandatory staff meetings and training.
- Provide patient education and support, including answering questions, addressing concerns, and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Stay current with advancements in healthcare technology, telemedicine practices, and relevant professional guidelines and standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in virtual primary care. The time spent on each responsibility reflects an estimate and is subject to change dependent on business needs
Requirements
- Medical degree and active medical license.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a General Practitioner.
- Board-certified and licensed to practice medicine.
- License to practice as General Practitioner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and in a team, and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge of English
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Familiarity with remote health assessments and treatments.
- Ability to manage chronic disease care remotely.
- Bilingual skills (specific languages) are a plus.
- Knowledge of current telehealth regulations and best practices.
- Previous maritime experience, either shoreside or onboard.
