Job Summary
The Medical Billing Trainer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs for medical billing staff. This role involves providing comprehensive education on billing processes, coding standards, compliance regulations, and best practices to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the billing cycle. The trainer will conduct workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, and ongoing training to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team, ultimately supporting the organization’s revenue cycle performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Training Program Development: Design and develop training materials, manuals, and resources tailored to the medical billing department needs.
- Conduct Training Sessions: Facilitate engaging and informative training sessions for new hires and existing staff on medical billing software, coding standards (CPT, ICD-10), and compliance regulations.
- Assess Training Needs: Evaluate the knowledge gaps and training needs of the medical billing staff to create targeted training programs.
- Ongoing Education: Provide ongoing education and refreshers on changes in billing regulations, payer policies, and medical coding updates.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor staff performance post-training to assess knowledge retention and application of skills in real-world scenarios.
- Feedback and Improvement: Gather feedback from trainees to continuously improve training materials and methods based on staff needs and industry changes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with management and billing team leaders to align training initiatives with organizational goals and objectives.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of training sessions, participant progress, and training outcomes.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest trends, developments, and best practices in medical billing and coding.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with a focus on training or education roles.
- Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Medical Coder (CMC) preferred.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of medical billing processes, coding guidelines, compliance regulations, and healthcare reimbursement models.
- Skills:
- Strong presentation and communication skills to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training programs simultaneously.
