Surgical Tech Lead - Certified Surgical Tech - Ortho Team Lead

Job Summary
Works in collaboration with Surgeon and RN to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Follows aseptic technique procedures and able to provide equipment and supplies based on surgeon and patient needs. Handles instruments according to their instructions for use and follows infection prevention principles.
Essential Functions

Applies knowledge and experience of principles of Universal Precautions, asepsis and maintenance of the sterile field; is knowledgeable of the anatomy & physiology of the planned procedures, methods of sterilization and applications for each type of instrumentation, surgical materials, patient positioning and transfer methods.

Has knowledge of the rhythm of surgical procedures and the purpose of instruments included in the instrument sets.

Decontaminates, cleans, disinfects, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes surgical instruments according to their instructions for use.

Performs point of use cleaning, and handles instruments carefully, in compliance with professional standards.

Ensures supplies are always on hand.

Efficiently and effectively assists physician with operative procedures

Prepares the operating room for surgical cases

Anticipates surgeon / physician’s needs both in preparing for procedures and during the procedure

Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, proper recordation of details

Conducts sponge, needle and instrument count pre-operatively and intraoperative with circulating nurse

Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas

Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency situations. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.

Contributes to teamwork by returning equipment to proper storage area, picking up and returning supplies, and closing rooms at the end of the day.

Assures that patient safety conditions are observed in all patient related situations

Has knowledge and understanding of the facility’s policies, including but not limited to, safety, infection control and risk management policies and procedures.

Is knowledgeable and adheres to regulatory requirements (Federal, CDC, and State) and accreditation standards, as applicable.

Assists in maintaining and updating physician preference cards.

Cultivates a cohesive work environment by supporting and working effectively with teammates, both clinical and non-clinical; promotes teamwork and willing to assist where needed to ensure a smooth work day for all.

Assists in employee training, orientation, education, and quality control activities and intitiatives.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in Surgical Technology required
-
1-3 years similar experience in an ASC intraoperative setting, orthopedic experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications
-
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required

ABLS - Advanced Burn Life Support preferred

Basic Life Support required
State Specific Requirements
- Mississippi: BLS certification required, Surgical Technician certification is preferred
