The Ultrasound Technologist provides direct patient care and manages equipment and scheduling for efficient work flow. Prepares patient for diagnostic procedure and conducts ultrasound with proficiency assuring quality of images captured.
Responsibilities:

Accurately performs ultrasound exams to department standards including technique, positioning, protocols and administration of contrast material.

Assures quality of image presented to radiologist for interpretation and consults with doctor to obtain optimum exam.

Assures safety of patient including pregnancy identification and shielding documentation; reviews safety questionnaire prior to scanning patient.

Prepares consent forms and other demographic data for patients receiving treatment.

Explains procedure to patient after first introducing self and gives post procedure instructions.

Provides efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas. Uses wheelchairs, stretchers, beds in an appropriate fashion. Assists patient in and out of wheelchair and stretchers using proper wheel locking procedures. Cleans wheelchairs and stretchers and reports needed repairs to supervisor.

Uses proper lifting techniques as demonstrated in annual body mechanics in-service. Uses table pads, sheets, side rails/locks, to assure patient comfort and safety. Accurately utilizes initial side markers.

Coordinates the selection and use of supplies, minor equipment, X-Rays, reports, and files between departmental units as needed and maintains an efficient workflow.

Collaborates in departmental and hospital wide QA/QI program as requested.

Trains new hires or existing staff as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education / Training
- Graduate of Ultrasonography
Additional Information:
Completion of formal Ultrasonography training in an AMA approved school for degree or diploma as Certified Ultrasound Tech.

- 0 - 1 year General/Vascular Ultrasound
Preferences:
1 year of Ultrasound experience

General Sonography:
Registered Ultrasound Tech through ARDMS RDMS (abdomen or ob/gyn)
or
ARRT (sonography)
Vascular Sonography:
Registered Vascular through ARDMS (RVT)
or
Registered Vascular through CCI (RVS)

Registered Vascular through ARRT (RVS)
