Job Summary
The Health Information Management Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Health Information Management Director (HIMD) and Health Information Management Manager (HIM Manager) (if applicable) in daily decisions relating to HIM workflow. Other duties include but are not limited to managing staffing, unbilled and physician-related chart completion issues, customer service, the release of medical information, record completion, file maintenance, document imaging, and the maintenance of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. The Health Information Management Supervisor is responsible for the department in the absence of the HIMD or HIM Manager (if applicable).
Essential Functions

Oversees the daily workflow and efficiencies of the HIM department to include one or more of the following activities: chart processing (including EHR task queues), deficiency management, unbilled or reporting requirements and ensures HIM KPI's and standards are met.

Reports to the HIMD (and/or HIM Manager, if applicable) the status of HIM workflow processes.

Develops action plans for areas not meeting standards and presents to the HIMD (or HIM Manager, if applicable).

Assists with the daily workflow activities of HIM when necessary.

Assists with education of HIM staff related to HIM workflow processes.

Ensures compliance with legal requirements, federal, state and professional standards, and Joint Commission on Accreditation standards.

Responsible for the HIM Department in the absence of the HIM Director or HIM Manager (if applicable).

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

H.S. Diploma or GED required
-
Associate Degree Health Information Management or related field preferred

1-3 years Previous medical record experience required

0-1 years Previous medical record experience with 0 - 1 years supervisory/management responsibilities. required

1-2 years Previous medical record experience with 1 - 2 years supervisory/management responsibilities. preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Information systems and healthcare applications in addition to general office applications (ie., Microsoft word & excel)

Experience with electronic medical record systems

Medical record requirements and workflow processes

Strong attention to detail
Licenses and Certifications
- RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician preferred
