Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Cashier Supervisor, posts payments and adjustments to patient accounts, books appropriate entries for refunds processing, receives daily receipts, prepares daily bank deposit, prepares book or refund payments received in error, prepares Electronic reports as required, balances the daily cash reconciliation to include direct deposit reconciliation, reconciles Bank to Book discrepancies and prepares monthly reports for Finance.
Essential Functions

Reviews health insurance explanation of benefits to determine proper application of payments and contractual adjustments.

Posts insurance payments as required including resolving edits, manual matching of invoices and balancing files to payments received by check or electronic funds transfer. Verifies and logs all fund transfers, lockboxes or over the counter deposits.

Resolves discrepancies and balances all daily postings within a timely manner and according to established guidelines. Submits variance for corrections and ensures completion in a timely manner.

Analyzes payer reimbursements against payments received to ensure adherence to contract fee schedules and to determine patient responsibility for balances.

Posts debits for approved refunds. Audits all transactions posted for appropriateness, accuracy and adherence to established policies and guidelines.

Researches and transfers unidentified payments according to established practices.

Ensures confidentiality of all patient accounts by following established HIPAA guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

H.S. Diploma or GED required

College coursework in accounting, finance or other related field preferred

0-1 years Previous experience in business office helpful, basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance. preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, (Excel, Word and Outlook), cash applications systems.
