The Role:
The Associate Vice President of Marketing is responsible for overall marketing results of the North Division (which covers Providence and Swedish facilities in Washington’s Puget Sound and Alaska) to include the successful development and implementation of marketing and digital experience strategy that will drive positive results in support of business and strategic goals of the organization and ensure a return on marketing investment. The successful candidate must be a senior-level marketing practitioner who understands the healthcare business well and focuses on the consumer/patient to continuously strengthen Providence's position in the market. This leader must be adept at leading large multi-disciplinary teams, aligning them on a vision and direction and driving them toward successful completion of assigned goals. This leader must excel in a fast-paced, complex environment, be adept at analyzing data to gain insights and drive action with target audiences and be an out-of-the-box thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This role is an executive-level position serving as the trusted marketing strategist and partner for senior operational and clinical leadership. The AVP should be a constant and trusted presence for the marketing and digital experience function across two large, complex regions and will be counted on to provide sound marketing counsel, advice and strategic input. The AVP works in close partnership with divisional communication and strategy teams, as well as other senior operational and clinical leaders to coordinate and align marketing strategy across functions. This individual must have a strong background in all facets of marketing, particularly performance marketing using a CRM platform, and have proven experience creating strategy and executing successful campaigns that drive results. Experience with leading and managing strategic marketing efforts from beginning to end, as well as being current on consumer behavior research and journey mapping best practices, is vital. The AVP will oversee team that includes an executive director and senior managers, who are responsible for directing and managing marketing plan development, campaign execution and ensuring alignment in strategies and delivery of information across the organization and its affiliates.
Core Responsibilities & Accountabilities: The AVP, Marketing serves as the Chief Marketing Officer for the North Division, driving strategic marketing initiatives that support business growth and market share expansion. This role is responsible for ensuring that the divisional marketing strategy aligns with the organization's overall marketing strategy and business objectives. The key outcomes divisional marketing teams are accountable for include:

Brand Positioning & Competitive Differentiation – Strengthening brand presence and ensuring clear differentiation in the market.

Identifying Opportunities for Revenue Growth – Partnering with operational and financial leaders to uncover and drive revenue-generating opportunities.

Growing Market Share – Developing and executing marketing strategies that attract new consumers and retain existing ones, leading to measurable market share expansion.

The AVP is a key leader with the marketing and digital experience (MDeX) team at Providence, which means they must:

Possess a deep understanding of the capabilities and expertise available within the centralized MDeX team.

Match divisional marketing challenges and opportunities with existing MDeX solutions, leveraging centralized resources efficiently.

Act as a conduit for business intelligence, customer insights, and key market dynamics that inform centralized strategy development.
Essential Functions:

Advises executive leadership on critical marketing, competitive and consumer experience initiatives, and drives strategy and provides solutions to complex issues.

Establishes strong relationships across the organization to effectively influence and guide strategy development and proactively communicate marketing's progress and results; ensures quarterly reports of annual plan progress are completed and effectively communicated -- tells the team's story to the organization.

Leads strategic planning and execution of complex system marketing and digital experience efforts and ensures support and buy-in of these efforts with divisional senior leadership.

Oversees the annual planning process and establishment of marketing priorities and budget.

Aligns goals, priorities and resource support across departments and functional teams to achieve business and strategic goals.

Drives proactive competitive strategy to ensure continuous growth in volume, revenue and return on marketing investment.

Oversees the ongoing analysis of competitive environment and consumer trends; communicates trends and learning to leadership and other stakeholders and provides strategic recommendations to operations and clinical leadership to improve patient acquisition, retention and the patient experience.

Oversees the management of agencies, consultants, freelancers and other service suppliers, including contract negotiation and management.

Builds, manages and coaches a high-performing marketing team.

Exceptional Communication Skills – Ability to articulate marketing’s impact and influence cross-functional teams effectively.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, business or related field; or equivalent educ/experience

Master's Degree in Marketing, business or related field; or equivalent educ/experience (preferred)

Minimum 15 years demonstrated senior management experience in leading broad-based and successful marketing teams and program

10 or more years of experience in Health care marketing or health care leadership (preferred)

10 or more years of demonstrated experience working in highly matrixed, geographically diverse environments (preferred)

10 or more years of demonstrated experience working directly with top-level executives in administrative and clinical environments (preferred)

Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Strong verbal communication and listening skills
