Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director to oversee our day-to-day operations, ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines (including COLA standards), and work hands-on in the lab, with a strong focus on microbiology. This is a dynamic role requiring both managerial expertise and technical proficiency in running high-complexity lab tests.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
Perform hands-on testing in hematology, coagulation, chemistry, immunoassay, microbiology, and molecular PCR with a primary focus on microbiology.
Manage and maintain laboratory operations, including workflow optimization and resource allocation.
Oversee and support LIS administration (Laboratory Information System).
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and COLA guidelines.
Prepare for and ensure successful completion of COLA inspections.
Maintain documentation for audits, inspections, and certifications.
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise, train, and mentor lab technologists, phlebotomists, and administrative staff.
Collaborate with clients, physicians, and the lab owner on business-related decisions, including test offerings, reimbursement, and personnel matters.
Foster a positive and professional environment that prioritizes teamwork and quality care.
Technology & Communication
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams) for reporting, tracking, and communication.
Quickly adapt to new software and technology to enhance lab efficiency.
Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
Experience
Proven experience in a high-complexity laboratory environment, including microbiology.
Strong understanding of COLA guidelines and the ability to ensure compliance and pass inspections.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams).
Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and implement new software quickly.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Critical thinker with a proactive, self-starter mindset.
