The Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the surgeon's needs. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintaining the sterile field.
Position Overview
• Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
• Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations on the patient's skin, body, and medical equipment.
• May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room.
• Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
• Typically reports to a registered nurse.
• Assists with patient care responsibilities in the OB unit including vital signs, assisting with toileting and ambulation, passing meal trays, setting up delivery tables, etc.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
• Must be certified to perform CPR
• Desirable characteristics include at least two (2) years of experience as a scrub technician in a hospital or medical environment.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
