Scientist 2 needed for a contract opportunity with Yoh Scientific’s client located in
San Diego, CA. This position will be for a major
biotech company and is suitable for someone with a
bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.Shift: Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
Key ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual for this Scientist 2 position within the Sample Core Biorepository to help run day to day operations. Our ideal candidate will work cross functionally with the team and other groups to provide samples and services to assist Illumina project teams.
- Designs and performs experiments of varying complexity and across a broad array of techniques, including but not limited to:
- Extraction of nucleic acids from FFPE, blood, plasma, and cell lines
- Quantification and qualification of nucleic acids using fluorometric, qPCR, and size selection methods
- Makes detailed technical observations and documents them in electronic laboratory notebooks
- Foresees issues and works to overcome obstacles to completing tasks or assignments
- Independently plans and conducts experiments based on predetermined priorities or business needs
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- Flow cytometry
- Single cell RNA-seq
- Bacterial culture and/or bioburden testing
- Experience using inventory management system, i.e. SAP or BSI
- Experience with manual or automated nucleic acids extraction, qualification, and quantification methods
- Strong ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines with team members and internal customers
- Communicate effectively in various environments with different stakeholders; tailoring communications and presentations as necessary
- Highly proficient, productive, and effective in the lab
- Ability to design and analyze experiments containing appropriate controls to optimize process efficiency or troubleshoot issues
- Cell culture experience
- Experience culturing a variety of mammalian cancer cell lines
- Exceptional sterile technique
- Nucleic acid extractions from cell lines
- Nucleic acid quant/QC which can includes Nanodrop, Accuclear, Quantifluor, qPCR, FA, Quibit, or Tapestation
- Experience working with customers and/or other teams
- Laboratory upkeep which includes cleaning, restocking consumables/reagents, and maintaining equipment

Salary: $35.50 - $44.25 per hour depending on experience, W2.
